How it works
How OziShare works
Every borrow on OziShare follows the same five steps, from the first request to the rating at the end. The whole cycle is tracked in the app, so both people always know what is out, with whom, and when it is due back.
How do I join OziShare?
Sign up with Google, Apple, Facebook, or an email address. We ask for your legal name and date of birth (OziShare is for people aged 18 and over), your phone number, and your address. It takes a couple of minutes.
Your address sets your suburb and how far away items are. Other members see your first name and last initial, your suburb and an approximate distance — never your street address.
How do I list something to lend?
Take a few photos, give the item a title and short description, pick a category, say what condition it is in, and publish. The app can write the whole listing for you from the photos alone.
Every listing is reviewed before it goes live, usually quickly, so a new item will not appear to your neighbours the instant you publish it. You can mark an item as unavailable, or as available from a future date, whenever you like.
How do I find something to borrow?
Your feed shows everything the people you are connected with have listed. You can search it by category or keyword, and browse the map to see who is nearby.
You can also search every approved listing in your whole suburb, search within a radius from 100 m to 20 km, and look at what a neighbour has listed.
How do I ask to borrow an item?
Open the listing and choose your dates (up to 7 days). You see the exact price before you send anything: the rent (free for items under $30, otherwise a daily price of 8% of the item’s value), the service fee (17.5% of the rent plus a $1 booking fee) and the security deposit, which equals the item’s value.
Your request opens a conversation with the lender, who can accept or decline. Nothing is charged when you send a request.
What happens while I have the item?
When you collect the item, you pay in the app: the rent and fees are charged, and the deposit is held on your card — reserved, not charged. Check the item together at pickup; photos in the chat are a good record.
Every paid booking has a firm return deadline 6½ days after pickup, shown to the minute in the app. We remind you on day 5 and on the morning of day 6.
How does returning work?
Hand the item back to the lender in person and tap “I’ve returned it”. The lender checks it and confirms the return, which releases your deposit; lenders who rent items out are then paid by Stripe.
If the item is damaged, the lender can claim from the deposit (up to its full amount) and you have 48 hours to accept or dispute. If the return isn’t confirmed by the deadline, the deposit is paid to the lender. After every return, both of you can rate each other.
Do I need to know someone to borrow from them?
On OziShare you can borrow from and lend to anyone nearby — there’s no need to be connected first. Message a lender from any listing, and see how they’re rated as a lender and as a borrower on their profile.
Your full address is only shared with the other member of a booking if you choose to share it to arrange pickup, and sharing is two-way.

Borrowing and lending are free. Start by listing one thing you own but rarely use.
