How borrowing, renting, payments, deposits and returns work on OziShare. If your question isn’t here, contact us at support@ozishare.com.au.

What is OziShare?

OziShare is an Australian marketplace for borrowing and renting everyday items from people nearby — tools, camping gear, party supplies, garden equipment and more. Lenders list things they rarely use; borrowers pick dates, pay in the app at pickup, and return the item to the lender in person.

Is OziShare the same as NeighboursLoop?

Yes. NeighboursLoop is now OziShare. Your account, listings, messages, ratings and history carried over unchanged — sign in the same way you always have.

How much does it cost to borrow on OziShare?

Items worth under $30 are free to borrow — you pay only a $1 booking fee. For items worth $30 or more the lender can charge a daily price of 8% of the item’s value. On every booking the borrower pays a service fee of 17.5% of the rent plus the $1 booking fee. You see the exact total, and the deposit, before you send a request.

Can you show a worked example of the price?

Borrowing a $100 drill for 3 days: the daily price is $8 (8% of $100), so the rent is $24. The service fee is $4.20 (17.5% of $24) plus the $1 booking fee, so the borrower pays $29.20. A $100 security deposit is held on the card at pickup and released when the return is confirmed. The lender receives $19.80 ($24 rent minus the 17.5% commission of $4.20).

How much does it cost to lend, and how much do I earn?

Listing is free. If you rent an item out, OziShare deducts a 17.5% commission from the rent and pays you the rest. Lending free items costs you nothing. Earnings are paid by Stripe to your bank account after the item is returned and you confirm the return.

What is the security deposit?

Every paid booking has a security deposit equal to the item’s value, as set by the lender. At pickup it is held on the borrower’s card — reserved, not charged. When the lender confirms the item is back in good condition, the hold is released and the borrower is not charged. The deposit is only charged if the item is damaged or not returned in time.

When do I pay?

Nothing is charged when you send a request. When the lender accepts and you meet to collect the item, you pay in the app: the rent and fees are charged, and the deposit is held. If the booking is cancelled before pickup, you are not charged anything.

How long can I borrow something for?

Up to 7 days per booking. Every paid booking also has a firm return deadline of 6½ days (156 hours) after pickup, because a card hold can only last a limited time. The app shows the exact date and time, and reminds the borrower on day 5 and on the morning of day 6.

What happens if a borrower doesn’t return an item?

If the return hasn’t been confirmed by the deadline (6½ days after pickup), the full security deposit — the item’s value — is charged to the borrower and paid to the lender, with no OziShare fee. The lender is compensated for the full value, and because the borrower has paid the item’s full value, the borrower has the right to keep or collect the item.

I returned the item but the lender hasn’t confirmed. What happens?

Tap “I’ve returned it” in the booking as soon as you hand it back. If the lender still hasn’t confirmed by the deadline, the deposit is charged but held by OziShare — it is not paid to the lender — while our support team checks what happened with both of you. If the item was returned, the deposit is refunded to you.

What happens if an item is damaged?

When the lender confirms the return, they can report damage instead: they choose what’s wrong and how much to claim, up to the full deposit, and can add photos. That amount is charged from the deposit straight away and held by OziShare; the rest of the deposit is released. The borrower has 48 hours to accept or dispute. If the borrower accepts or doesn’t respond, the lender is paid — OziShare takes no fee from damage claims.

Can I dispute a damage claim?

Yes. The borrower can dispute a damage claim in the app within 48 hours. The claimed amount stays with OziShare while our support team reviews the photos and messages from both sides, then pays it to the lender or refunds it to the borrower. Taking photos together at pickup and return makes any dispute quick to settle.

If I pay for a broken or lost item, can I keep it?

Yes. If a damage claim is for the item’s full value, or the deposit is charged because the item wasn’t returned, the borrower has paid the item’s full value and has the right to keep it or collect it from the lender.

What is a return gesture?

For items worth under $30, which are free to borrow, the lender can ask for a small thank-you such as a coffee, chocolate or a plant. It’s voluntary, not a payment, and not enforceable — just a nice way to say thanks.

Can I cancel a booking?

Yes — either member can cancel before pickup and nothing is charged. If a booking is never collected, it is closed as a no-show and any amount already charged for it is refunded.

Is my card safe?

Payments are processed by Stripe, a global payments provider. OziShare never sees or stores your full card number. Some banks ask you to confirm a payment (3-D Secure) — the app shows that step when needed.

How do lenders get paid?

Before accepting your first paid booking, you set up payouts with Stripe (your bank details and identity check happen with Stripe, not OziShare). After each item comes back and you confirm the return, your earnings are paid to your bank account.

Why does OziShare ask for my legal name and date of birth?

OziShare accounts are for people aged 18 and over, because borrowing involves payments and deposits. We ask for your legal name and date of birth to confirm that. Other members only see your first name and last initial; your date of birth is never shown.

Do I need an account to browse?

In the OziShare app you can browse listings near you without an account; you need one to borrow, lend or message. On the website, sign in to browse — public item pages can still be opened from a shared link.

Who can see my address?

Your street address is never shown publicly. Other members see your suburb and an approximate distance. Your full address is only shared with the other member of a booking if you choose to share it to arrange pickup — and sharing is two-way.

How do ratings and reviews work?

After an item is returned, both members can leave a star rating and a short review. Reviews appear on each member’s profile, split into “as a lender” and “as a borrower”.

How do I report a user or item?

Every profile, listing and review has a report option. Our team reviews reports and can warn, suspend or remove accounts and listings.

What happened to OziShare Plus (NeighboursLoop Plus)?

Plus has been retired. Its features are open to everyone, and there is no subscription to pay for or cancel.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Profile → Account actions → Delete account, or email privacy@ozishare.com.au. We delete or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable period, except payment records we must keep by law.
